TAMonitor™ from THERAPYAUDIT Limited is a web-based therapeutic drug monitoring solution which has proven effectiveness in the monitoring of patients on DMARDs.  However its approach is sufficiently flexible to help significantly in closing the information loop around patients who are prescribed lithium, and in doing so go a long way towards satisfying the requirements of the National Patient Safety Agency alert on Lithium issued in December 2009.

The web-based technology behind TAMonitor enables it to act as a hub in the flow of information between the stakeholders associated with lithium monitoring.  As shown in the diagram, blood results and patient demographics can be passed through an interface (such as ICE from Sunquest) to the TAMonitor database, in which sophisticated rules can be maintained for individual, or groups of patients.  The rules identify abnormal results, abnormal trends in results, and patients who haven't attended for testing when expected (DNA).  Once these triggers are activated information can be escalated to any of the stakeholders, for example to patients (by SMS) to recall for testing, or to pharmacists to advise against dispensing medication.

In addition to the proactive way in which TAMonitor flows information, access can be provided to TAMonitor for clinical and pharmacy users over the N3 network.
